Tethering

What is tethering? There are two “definitions”: one is to restrict its range of motion. The other, is to attach for security.

I always find it fascinating how reflective and opposite language can be - and how we use it, function with it, and make it tangible.

What are you tethered to? What is restricting you? And, then, what are you securely fastened to in order to stretch and release from?

Often, they can be the same thing. Once we recognize that, we can begin to shift our mindset to release the restriction and engage the security and the flexibility and the elasticity that allows the tethering to stretch more fully.

What can you tether to right now? How about your breath? Yes, it can be restricted. You can change that by creating a tangibility with it through stay present.

What about your singing? Do you not feel able to sing right now? Many of us feel that. We feel restricted, unsure, scared, unmotivated, lost. Floating at sea. Untethered?

See where I’m going with this?

We want to trust those tethers that allow for anchor and still give us stretch. We want to recognize those tethers that can ground us, even when we feel unsure, unmotivated.

Think about this: before the world changed, what gave you joy? Tether to that thought. Breathe into that thought. I know what you are saying, “yeah, but, Susan…” STOP.

NO ONE TAKES YOUR JOY.

Do you hear me? NO ONE. NOTHING. TAKES YOUR JOY.

Tether to your JOY. It’s there. It’s in there. It won’t leave you. You’ve probably been tethered to it all along, but sometimes we forget and wander.

Sometimes you just have to pull on the line a little and feel it tug back. That’s it. Just a little tug to recognize it’s there.

That tether to my joy got a gentle tug this morning that I want to share with you. Some of the artists from Disney Theatricals performed via Zoom on Good Morning America today. I am honored to work with two of them: Ciara Renée & Adrienne Walker.

They reminded me of that tethering today. May it do the same for you.

The link to watch is HERE.

Tug just a little today. Feel it tug back. It’s there. You’re there. The connection is real.

We are in this together. And, when you are ready, #singingisNOTcanceled.

With fondness & fierceness,

Susan
