Sunday...

You sang it, didn’t you? Of course you did!

We, as an industry, have had our breath taken away with the passing of Stephen Sondheim. We all have stories of how he, how his music, how his lyrics, how his teaching, changed our lives; made us more HUMAN.

His legacy GIVES us breath. His gift was larger and deeper and fuller than perhaps we even realize yet.

And so, on this Sunday, I muse…

Why do we do what we do?

What are we doing?

How are we doing it?

Where are we doing it?

Are we doing at all?

What do we want to leave behind about who we are, why we are, as we do what we do?

This shouldn’t leave us scrambling. So stop.

This should give us permission to slow down, to stop and observe. To take a breath and release it. To wonder. To be amazed. To simplify.

We don’t have to change the world. We simply need to be real, and stay present in that messy wonder of the humanness within the artist. And maybe, just maybe, we leave our corner of the world just a little better than we found it.
