SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT! Rebecca Shorstein

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT WILL HIGHLIGHT A SINGER-ARTIST IN THE STUDIO EACH WEEK. SOME OF THESE SINGER-ARTISTS MIGHT BE FAMILIAR TO YOU, AND SOME MAY NOT. NO MATTER WHAT, EACH SINGER-ARTIST IS SOMEONE THAT YOU SHOULD GET TO KNOW!

It is an honor and a privilege for me to work with each of these singer-artists and introduce them to you!

This week, it is a joy to introduce you to crossover soprano, Rebecca Shorstein.

Rebecca is, to me, the poster child of taking your craft seriously, but learn how to laugh at yourself! She is a combination of fearlessness, laughter, tears, talent, intellect & sheer joy! Animals and children love her, and they know authentic! We love her too. Get to know her. Let her energy and truth draw you in!

If you are in NYC in December, she is going to be performing at Don’t Tell Mama on December 17th. Check it out HERE.

REBECCA SHORSTEIN

Rebecca Shorstein was lucky enough to be introduced to Susan Eichhorn-Young at just the right moment in her life and performing career. Their meeting was certainly beshert (meant to be)! A lover of opera, musical theater, cabaret, and children’s outreach, Rebecca immediately felt as though it was a match made in heaven, spending the lessons jumping from genre to genre and working hard while laughing and re-discovering why she fell in love with singing and performing in the first place.

Rebecca started out in musical theater singing roles such as Sally Brown in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Rebecca in Rags, and Amelia in She Loves me. Rebecca fell in love with opera in college at North Carolina School of the Arts, where she sang her first full opera role as Euridice in Orpheus in the Underworld and debuted the role of Lydia Bennett in Kirke Meecham’s Pride and Prejudice. Shortly after graduate school (Florida State University), Rebecca made her European debut singing The Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte. While in grad school, Rebecca met her now best friend and cabaret partner Monica Pasquini. The two have traveled around the United States and abroad, charming audiences while performing their cabaret duo as Rebonica. The duo have become best well-known for their duet version of The Queen of the Night.

Rebecca and Monica will be performing their newest cabaret, Rebonica: Hearing Double, on December 17th at 9:30pm at Don’t Tell Mama NYC.

Besides opera and musical theater, one of Rebecca’s biggest passions is teaching and children’s outreach. She has traveled around with her one-woman show, teaching kids about the power of music and opera, and what it’s like to be an opera singer. Rebecca has also had the privilege of collaborating with her incredibly talented brother, Benjamin Shorstein, on several compositions, and after recording their first album of all original music in 2019, A Certain Kind of Darkness, they are preparing now to record their next album Shir Hashirim

When Rebecca is not performing, you can find her swinging on the flying trapeze, crocheting animals for her nieces and nephews, and getting LOTS of dog cuddles.
