responsibility, accountability & a full moon

Sunday Musings…I woke up thinking about responsibility today. What are we responsible for? What & who are we responsible to? How does it relate to accountability? How does it relate to our integrity and our authenticity?

It’s also a full moon tonight - a rare one - so my “woo” is fully activated and the philosophical portion of my brain tends to ask big questions, especially now. This blog post is really stream of consciousness today - so follow along at your own peril!!!

In this age of social media, everyone has an opinion. The industry wants to see followers, and likes, and reposts. It’s all about perception. On the surface, it seems harmless, albeit somewhat sophomoric. yet time consuming. We all get sucked into it.

As artists, we ride a thin line in our REAL LIFE lives, let alone our online presence. How much do we share? What do we share? Who is that online persona vs our real life inner circle?

What are we responsible for?

What is responsibility anyway?

Responsibility is a role. It is task based. It doesn’t need emotion attached to it. It is taking a task and simply committing to it.

As an artist, your responsibility is to your craft; your preparation; your readiness to take on a project, a role, an audition.

If no emotion is needed to accept responsibility, then creating an online presence is more about time management and less about “feeling” it.

Trying to figure out what “they” want isn’t an action you are responsible for. Therefore, release it and focus on what IS your responsibility.

Accountability is a choice. It is about claiming the direction and the outcome of your responsibility. Many don’t take on their accountability and this is a slippery slope. Perhaps we have all been there at some point when things don’t go our way - or our perceived way. It’s easier to blame someone else, than to take on our accountability.

Accountability is personal. Accountability is the mental outcome of action, in taking on responsibility.

What we share about our responsibility and our accountability in our real life as well as our online persona speaks volumes to those who scroll on by!

And integrity? That’s the piece that radiates through everything you do - whether someone sees it or not.

These words mean nothing without action, and without realization. They are often used interchangeably and yet, they are truly different and inform each other. Finding that in yourself as an artist and as an artist within the industry can really place ownership where it needs to be and allow you some space to recognize, and claim what is yours and release what is not.

And how does the full moon relate to all of this? Well, this is a Cold Moon. This is a moon of opposing forces. This particular moon allows for change, observation, expression & release of what is no longer needed. This moon is less emotional, and more about our mental processes and our communication.

So, perhaps giving yourself a little time today to take on that less emotional response to your sense of responsibility is a start. Explore how realizing there is a difference between your responsibility and your accountability and figuring out gradually what that means for you is something you begin to journal about. Become clearer on how your integrity can grow regardless of likes or reposts, by simply living it and breathing it. Explore allowing room for more integration of all these concepts and communications.

Take time to face that full moon tonight if you can. Release what you don’t need. Take responsibility for that. That’s the task I choose to honor today too.
