Ready for what?

Precisely.

Decide what you want to be ready for, and prepare for that.

Our industries remain in flux (I am being very diplomatic, let’s be honest, it’s a dumpster fire out there most of the time!), but that doesn’t mean YOU have to be!

How do you prepare?

How do you ready yourself?

How do you stay prepared, ready, able?

It’s exhausting to feel as if you are in the blocks constantly, being held in the state of “ready, set….” with no “GO!” in sight.

As performers, we need to prepare just like any high level athlete: the physicality, the craft, the mindset.

Even if you are just getting started on your career journey, you can begin to prepare this way.

If you are emerging or established, or re-establishing, you probably have had these tools in place before. Now is the time to re-focus them, and adjust your approach for the times we are in!

How is your physical health? Are you staying in physical shape, whatever that means for you and your body?

Are you staying hydrated and rested?

Are you eating enough protein? (that’s my biggest issue btw)

Have you created a form of micro-practicing in order to access your technical behavior efficiently and effectively?

Are you stretching physically and vocally?

Are you creating moments of stillness for your mindset?

Are you developing endurance and sustainability in the voice?

Are you practicing HOW you learn your music, a role? These are all practices that we need to keep up on so when the call comes, we aren’t re-learning HOW to learn!

Don’t wait to suddenly get job or the opportunity to get ready - it never serves you well.

We are seeing less and less lead-time in the industry, meaning you might be asked to take a job without the time you’ve been used to, to prepare. Knowing this, it’s time to ready yourself for that possibility.

How ready can you be? What do you have control over to be ready? Do that. Do all of that.

There’s so much you can do, right now! Enjoy that process, and make it yours!
