Setting INTENTIONS
What is setting an intention? And how useful is it? And where do you use it?
We see this in meditation, in a yoga practice, and intention setting is seen in different spiritual practices.
But what about the artist? Where and how and when and why could this be useful?
Simply, an intention is a plan. Setting an intention makes us responsible. Taking responsibility is empowering, no matter how small or insignificant the task.
Our minds believe what we tell it. And if you geek out on things like brain neuroplasticity which allows us to adapt to our behaviors, setting intentions can be a great way to build consciousness into tasks.
Intentions are not goals. Intentions are in the now. For someone who has 800 tabs open in her brain at all times, intention has been a crucial part of my life, my day, and keeping me present.
So, how do we set intentions in a more specific way?
How do we stay present in the moment as we navigate life, work, the world, our craft?
Start exploring setting intentions BEFORE you DO. It’s easy to see the day go by and you didn’t practice, you didn’t book your lesson, you didn’t, you didn’t…
Set an intention at the beginning of your practice session. Start that intention with “I will” or “I choose”.
I choose to explore what my voice can do today.
I will be gentle with myself as a practice today.
I choose to release the negative voices in my head as a practice today.
I choose to simply vibrate today.
I choose to stay present in my exhale as I sing today.
Set an intention before you walk into the audition room.
Set an intention before you walk into a lesson or a coaching.
Setting that intention drops you into the present moment and allows you to BE. There’s a ritual to it, and it can be very powerful. Don’t confuse intention with goal. Sometimes when we don’t have a goal, we don’t begin and the intention is lost. Forget the goal for the moment of intention.
Your intention creates HOW you walk into the moment.
I choose to move into this moment with grace.
I choose to be in this moment with courage.
I choose to be in this moment without excuses.
Powerful. Empowering. And your brain will LOVE you.
Create the reality and intention to every part of your day, your practice, your artistry, your craft. See what happens!
