“Working with Susan has not only been very productive; it has been inspiring. I like Susan’s patient and kind way going about things. She is very dedicated and fun to work with. What I love most is that she realizes that every voice behaves a different way on different days. Unlike most other teachers, Susan pulls out different exercises each time, warming your voice up accordingly. Also, when I tell her about my different needs for different shows and concerts I have to sing, Susan has just the right exercise for your particular need. In each singing lesson, she offers different exercises which I like a lot. One cannot fall into the trap of ‘knowing what comes next’ which I think is very important. After starting my professional career as an operatic soprano, I veered in other musical directions, without truly understanding how to sing in different styles, and in many ways, I hadn’t really figured out what I was doing in Opera! When I finally made it into her studio, I was vocally tired and emotionally worn out. From our first lesson, my voice was fresher and I had renewed hope. “For years I struggled with vocal issues…I was constantly sick, losing my voice, and was diagnosed with pre nodes in college. Eventually I had to get my tonsils removed at age 23. This helped for the time being, but because I had been dealing with issues for years, I had developed many bad habits to work around always being sick. At one point, things got so bad that I even considering changing career paths–a heartbreaking decision for an aspiring performer.
