Excited AND Scared

Always a Sondheim moment in a day…

A few days ago, I had a lovely chat with Katy Lindhart (who happens to study with me and is a magnificent soprano & artist) and then talked with Matthew Corozine (who is a friend and colleague and true authentic voice) about where we are, where we need to pivot, and what that might look like.

Is it scary? Of course it is. Why? Because we don’t know much right now. It’s okay to be scared, uncertain, freaked out.

We can allow ourselves to get excited too. Possibilities. Being ready, when we are ready to be ready.

Making choices to be part of the innovation, the change, the possibility. Or, making excuses and going down with the Titanic (because it IS sinking, make no mistake).

Somedays excited.

Somedays scared.

Somedays motivated.

Somedays exhausted.

Somedays tears.

Somedays laughter.

Somedays hope.

Somedays depression.

Somedays, all of it.

It all matters. All of it. The messiness of it, the triage of it, the honesty of it. As artists, we owe our own lives to that honesty.

Whatever the next is, you have an opportunity to be a part of it - in whatever form it takes, and in whatever form you choose to take.

Just breathe and know every feeling is valid, and every action is real.

I choose both: because scared can trigger the energy of excited. Excited allows me to find possibilities. Possibilities give me hope. Hope stirs my imagination.

Imagine it. Ah, the possibilities that suddenly have permission to emerge!

With fondness & fierceness,

Susan
