SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT WILL HIGHLIGHT A SINGER-ARTIST IN THE STUDIO EACH WEEK. SOME OF THESE SINGER-ARTISTS MIGHT BE FAMILIAR TO YOU, AND SOME MAY NOT. NO MATTER WHAT, EACH SINGER-ARTIST IS SOMEONE THAT YOU SHOULD GET TO KNOW!

It is an honor and a privilege for me to work with each of these singer-artists and introduce them to you!

Today’s spotlight shines upon crossover soprano, Hannah Madeleine Goodman.

I am delighted to introduce Hannah to you. If you follow me on all the socials, you would have seen a video of Hannah in the studio working an exercise that blends together legit/belt/operatic resonance balances beautifully! This is Hannah: a balance of so much talent in many areas, with colorful sprinkles of vibrancy, uniqueness, humor & laughter, depth and empathy. She wears her artistry with flair and authenticity, and amazes me with her focus, and her joie de vivre! (She also can create a cat eye flick that I have yet to learn & envy, for those of you who love a good eyeliner!)

This is Hannah. Get to know her. She is a remarkable young woman.

HANNAH MADELEINE GOODMAN

I am an opera singer, musical theatre storyteller, and teaching artist. I am a self-described "professional -inna/-etta/-anna" and I live for a Mozart soubrette role. I have a deep passion for and insatiable interest in the Great American Songbook. My career thus far has ranged from a small role on Glee, to singing in the Los Angeles Opera Chorus, to touring China as a young artist at the iSING! International Young Artists Festival, to training in musical improv at The Second City Hollywood! In addition to opera and musical theatre, I also enjoy singing as a staff soprano at The Brick Presbyterian Church in NYC and as cantorial soloist at Congregation Shma Koleinu in Houston.

I've had the immense pleasure of studying with Susan for the past four years. Before I moved to New York City, I asked around all my networks of colleagues about who an operatically trained crossover soprano working in both genres should study with, and the answer was unanimous. Moving our work together onto Zoom during the pandemic was one of the most wonderful surprises of the last two years. It's been an exciting time to really develop both my belt and my high coloratura.

I enjoy working with composers of new music, especially my closest collaborator, Felix Jarrar. During the shutdown, I premiered the role of the Page Boy in the virtual workshop of Felix's opera "The Tell-Tale Heart." We've also been working together on creating "Paulette," a cycle of twelve songs based on my grandmother's memoirs about growing up as a Jewish girl in Nazi-occupied Paris, and we look forward to premiering the song cycle together soon.

I am a master teaching artist for the Metropolitan Opera Guild and a teaching artist for the Los Angeles Opera and the Little Orchestra Society. As an outreach performer, I love sharing opera with young audiences. As a teaching artist, I love guiding learners as they explore music composition and empowering them to use their voices through choral singing. Third and fourth grade are my favorite!

My unusual talents include some truly bizarre eye-crossing tricks and singing in a chipmunk voice à la "Alvin and the Chipmunks." My favorite productions are the ones where I get to use these special skills!

I met my fiancé, Logan, workshopping a new musical in Los Angeles. We are doting cat parents to a wild ball of black cat energy, Shuri, and we love to tackle ambitious cooking and baking projects together and throw ceramics at our local pottery studio every weekend. I have an enormous and ever-growing collection of vintage dresses, mostly 1940s and 1950s, to my delight and my fiancé's chagrin.
