SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT WILL HIGHLIGHT A SINGER-ARTIST IN THE STUDIO EACH WEEK. SOME OF THESE SINGER-ARTISTS MIGHT BE FAMILIAR TO YOU, AND SOME MAY NOT. NO MATTER WHAT, EACH SINGER-ARTIST IS SOMEONE THAT YOU SHOULD GET TO KNOW!

It is an honor and a privilege for me to work with each of these singer-artists and introduce them to you!

Today’s spotlight shines upon operatic soprano, Rebecca Kidnie.

Rebecca is the embodiment of wu-wu meets healthy skepticism, depth & laughter! She’s my people!!! She has a fiery sense of humor, a voice that illuminates, and so many talents beyond her operatic prowess. She is FEARLESS. Authentic, committed and real, this is Rebecca! Get to know her, follow her, and watch her star RISE!

REBECCA KIDNIE

Hi there! My name is Rebecca Kidnie and I am so fortunate to be a voice student and friend of Susan Eichhorn Young.

I was introduced to Susan because I was in need of a voice teacher who was a fantastic communicator and who could support me in all the many ways I express art. So who better than a Gemini! I needed someone who could guide me in a holistic way because not only am I an opera singer, I am also a writer, a comedienne, and an intuitive Tarot reader.

My opera credits range from Mozart to Contemporary and some of my favorite roles include Contessa from Le Nozze di Figaro, Mimi from La Boheme, and the title role in Susannah. I love new opera and I’ve been a part of 3 premieres, 2 second-stagings, and multiple workshops throughout the last 10 years.

As a writer, I premiered my one-act play, “Avoidance Behaviors” through The Artist Co-Op Zoom-a-Play Festival in December of 2020.  I also wrote a one-woman, four-opera, sock puppet show titled, “Rita Libretto is: The Ring Cycle”. La Diva, Rita Libretto, tells the story of Wagner’s Ring Cycle through sock puppet characters as if describing the epic tale to children. It’s stupidly fantastic. Covid-19 did a real number on her momentum, but I’m anticipating another showing of her in early 2022.  I also regularly update my website with articles about things I find amusing, haunting, or curious and I also have ambitions of writing a memoir.

And read Tarot! I’ve been a spooky person since I was little and then one time (at an opera donor event, no less) a woman came up to me and said, “Tocca di strega!” paired with a knowing smile I will never forget and I thought, “Maybe I should explore this more…”

So I did some research, reached out to some Tarot readers, and studied and learned how to tap into a more intuitive brain in order to read Tarot. Through the pandemic, friends and acquaintances reached out to me for readings and I created a small business that allows me to use these facilities to help others. I feel so blessed to share these parts of myself with others and honored that they are accepting enough to listen to me.

Other hobbies include knitting, (shawls, hats, and socks are my favorite) and playing softball (I joined the Big Apple Softball League last summer and was the MVP of my team, nbd).
