Assumptions
As the world slowly begins to open up, and we peer out tentatively into the sunlight, what now?
What do we ASSUME?
That everything goes back to what it was? How it was?
That people will respond as they did?
That you will present as you did?
I don’t think so. The assumptions we might make will simply not serve us moving forward.
It’s only unsettling because it’s not what we have grown accustomed to. What we were doing, how we were doing it wasn’t necessarily empowering, effective, or evolved. It wasn’t serving our craft, our artistic integrity, our human connection.
From cattle calls, to behaviors, to boundaries - ALL of it needs to drop the assumption and recalibrate!
Our industry of theatre in every form has been in the murky land of assumption for much too long.
So what have you learned? What have you chosen? What have you made a decision to release?
Instead of making an assumption, why not decide to CHOOSE a behavior?
This can be empowering, and tangible.
You CHOOSE your boundaries.
You CHOOSE your plan of action.
You CHOOSE how you focus your life, your craft, your artistic expression.
You CHOOSE who you share that with: who you sing for; audition for; study with; coach with;
You CHOOSE who you engage with: boundaries of CHOICE are a fabulous thing!
As your world begins to reveal possibilities, YOU choose, don’t assume.
Hold yourself accountable to that, so when the negative voices begin to chatter (and they will if they haven’t already), you know what to do with them.
Choose a more conscious choice. Every single time.
This is time for Renaissance 2021. You are part of that fabric. Don’t assume it, BE it.
