SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT WILL HIGHLIGHT A SINGER-ARTIST IN THE STUDIO EACH WEEK. SOME OF THESE SINGER-ARTISTS MIGHT BE FAMILIAR TO YOU, AND SOME MAY NOT. NO MATTER WHAT, EACH SINGER-ARTIST IS SOMEONE THAT YOU SHOULD GET TO KNOW!

It is an honor and a privilege for me to work with each of these singer-artists and introduce them to you!

This week’s spotlight shines on the one and only Rachel Policar.

Yes, Rachel is a operatic soprano; Yes, Rachel is a a crossover artist; Yes, Rachel is an actor; Yes, Rachel is a writer; Yes, Rachel is a musician; Yes, Rachel is a comedienne. There truly is, there is nothing Rachel can’t do if she decides to do it. Yet, this doesn’t even begin to reveal it all! Rachel has depth, and nuance, and quicksilver light. She is indeed, an old soul. She embraces all angles of herself and her artistry with such honesty. We laugh, we have tears, we get raw, we get messy, we get real. She is this soulful firecracker that embodies so much intensity, yet burns so deeply that the light warms and lingers long after she leaves a room, or leaves the stage.

Get to know Rachel. She will welcome you with the “Rachel-ism” of “well, hello there!” and a 7000 watt smile and then begin to make the world a better place because she’s there. And yes, P.S. she LOVES coffee.

RACHEL POLICAR

Well hello there! I’m Rachel Policar - actor, singer, hustler and coffee connoisseur. I’m a petite, curly-headed loudmouth, and the things I value most in life are Authenticity, Integrity and Excellence. If that doesn’t scream Susan Eichhorn Young, than I don’t know what does!!!

Perhaps it was our mutual love of martinis, coffee, and leopard print but Susan and I just clicked from day one. When Susan came into my life, I had a terrible relationship with my instrument. Not only has she helped me to heal my relationship with my voice, but she has changed the way that I understand the teacher/student relationship and shown me how truly collaborative my vocal training can be. And she was the first person to introduce me to my true voice — after nearly a decade of professional work.

And you know what else? She CELEBRATES artists who want to do more than one thing and explore their creativity.

And that’s me! I’m an “opera singer”, but I also actively perform musical theatre, jazz, pop, rock, you name it. I play ukulele, piano, guitar and thanks to the gift of pandemic time, write and produce parody songs replete with elaborate (and charmingly low-budget) music videos. I am devoted to my study of the Meisner technique with Matthew Corozine Studio (on Susan’s recommendation!) and I live to spread joy and make people laugh.

I’ve had the privilege to perform Off Broadway and across the US with wonderful companies like Anchorage Opera, Dayton Opera, National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, Pacific Opera Project, Knoxville Opera, Opera on the James, St. Petersburg Opera, American Lyric Theatre, ATC Savannah and more. I am SUPER passionate about telling stories that are rooted in my Jewish heritage, and am honored to be embodying three incredible Jewish women this season: Ruth Bader Ginsburg in Derrick Wang’s Scalia/Ginsburg, Anne Frank in a one-woman, operatic adaptation of The Diary of Anne Frank, and Leah in a new Lori Laitman opera entitled Uncovered - a character who is in both the Hasidic and LGBTQ+ communities. Lucky, lucky me.

When I’m not singing, I’m drinking coffee. I have always been obsessed with coffee, but during the pandemic I started reviewing and documenting my coffee adventures and ended up connecting with coffee lovers and small business across the US — and it has become the most joyful thing. You can find me on instagram, @BrewishAmericanPrincess.

I live with my husband (and frequent parody collaborator!) in NYC, and spend my days cooking, lifting weights, and kicking a** with my second career in Real Estate. Told you I was a hustler.
