Are you thinking like an athlete?
What does that mean? Do you, a performer, a singer, think like one?
First, you have to LEARN like an athlete. What is that?
Athletes don’t compete first. They TRAIN. They don’t try to hide the fact that they train. The majority of their time is in training each day. Discovering their better self. Becoming better than their previous self. Working on their craft and then knowing when to take time off. They create a team around them that they can trust, they put their best interests first, that don’t gatekeep information. That team holds that athlete accountable.
Athletes also cross-train. Heard that before? They don’t just focus on what they DO - they focus on what else will make what they do, stronger. Cross-training can take many forms - so figuring out what it is yours, is CRUCIAL.
Athletes pay attention to their bodies. That doesn’t mean you have to be snatched. However, you need to be HEALTHY because YOU ARE AN ATHLETE!!!! Your instrument IS YOUR BODY! Treat it thus. Are you learning about your physicality and what it needs and what it does? THIS.
Athletes are INTENTIONAL. From what foods and nutrition work best for them, to what they consume in other aspects of their lives. Intention is everything and keeps you present in your life.
Athletes train MINDSET. We need this. WE NEED THIS. You can have all the talent in the world and if your mindset isn’t right, you are setting yourself up for failure. Figure out what you need, who you need to talk with and to, and what you need to do to get into the right frame of mind for your personal success.
Athletes don’t poo-poo coaches. They have more than one!! So, if Serena Williams has coaches for different aspects of her game and her mind, don’t you think having a teacher, and coaches would benefit you? Bragging about not having someone to give you a second set of ears, or someone you holds you accountable, isn’t actually bragging rights.
Athletes need to be motivated. What scares you? What lights you up? What gives you a kick in the ass? Find it, claim it, do it.
Think like an athlete, work like an athlete, be that athlete.
Do what you say you do. Don’t ask for permission. As Nike has said, just DO IT.
with fondness & fierceness,
